Microchipping, Pet Microchip, Microchip Implantation
In NSW, around 80,000 dogs and cats are lost, hurt or stolen each year. Most are impounded and are not able to be identified or tracked back to their owners. A simple microchip can help a lost pet find its way back to its owner. The Companion Animals Act was introduced by the NSW Government to protect pets, their owners and the broader community. ALL cats and dogs MUST have a microchip and be registered with their local NSW council by 6 months of age.
Microchipping is a way to PERMANENTLY identify and link your animal to you. You can only register your animal after it is microchipped. The procedure involves the insertion of a small microchip (about the size of a rice grain) under the skin, between the shoulder blades of your pet. It is a very quick process and can be done during a consultation with your vet. No general anaesthetic is required, in fact it is similar to receiving an injection. This process can be carried out by our gentle mobile vets.
The microchip contains a combination of numbers, which can be picked up with a microchip scanner. Once this number is registered with your local council, the number will identify you as the pet’s owner through a central database or register. ALL councils in NSW can access this database.
