Having a period is like riding a bike

Training Wheels, Help Our Daughters, Ride are Bike,
One of the delightful, and sometimes scary, parts of being a parent is watching your child experience many firsts. There is her first step, her first day at school, the first time she rides a bike and her first period.
For each of these milestones we try to prepare our child as much as possible. Instead of handing her a bike and telling her to go ride it, we might begin with training wheels and then progress to have a supportive – and fit – adult running beside her, holding the bike steady as she gains her balance. Finally we let go, confident that she is equipped to peddle off without us. While the steps to teaching a child to ride are bike seem fairly clear, the path to preparing girls for puberty can seem more daunting. Here are three things we can do to demystify puberty and help our daughters approach it as an exciting gateway to a new stage of their lives.
