BluesAngels at Brackets & Jam.- late May 2011
It was mighty cold on the Mountain but a solid audience of 120 or so still turned up to hear the 3 acts and warm up in the drum jam. Headliners BluesAngels 4-piece pumped some spirit into the night with their characteristic wide-ranging acoustic blues set, Tom Flood switching between banjo and guitar to lead the lineup, swinging into the sweet original, 'Nectarine', to get the dancers on the dirt, but it was once he settled into the solid harmonica numbers, chugging out a rhythm, drifting a sweet hook line across the hut, or roaring into a breakaway Chicago blues solo, that the late night B&J followers began to get it on. Thumping originals like Flood's 'Devil Don't Believe' and rhythm man Cec Bucello's 'Pie in the Sky', classic transformed covers like 'Boom Boom Boom' and 'Sitting On Top Of The World', or Tom's fast and furious 'Spirit Blues' brought out the banshee in the night and everyone was well sated and ready for bed. Last minute a 14 yr old girl got up and enlisted Tom on harp and Frank on double bass to impro the classic 'Fever'. Well, it brought the house down. BluesAngels ace it again.
