Silo, Fumigation, Australian Grain
Fumigation plays a key role in control and management of infestation. It is a curative treatment which adds to the storage Hygiene by keeping infestation free storage environment to comply with the regulatory requirements. Methyl Bromide and Phosphine are the most commonly used Fumigants.
PHOSPHINE FUMIGATION PRODUCTS:
Phosphine Tubes and Pumps: An ideal Phosphine detection system for spot checking of PH3 concentrations around and in the fumigated area. Detection is possible in the safety range of 0.1/0.3 ppm, as well as in the fumigation concentration of 400 to 2000 ppm.
Phosphine Lo Gas Detector: For the detection of PH3 gas in very low concentrations (min. Detectable limit of 0.01 ppm). Used to protect workers during the fumigation operation, as well as to detect leaks from the fumigated chamber.
Phosphine Gas Monitor: Provides an excellent means to measure PH3 concentrations within the fumigated Stack / Silo / Ship. The inbuilt electronic air sampling pump enables one to draw a sample from within the fumigated area and determine the PH3 concentration.
Phosphine Strips: These are paper strips impregnated with sensing chemicals by a special process to detect PH3. The strip on exposure to PH3 gas, changes its colour. The time it takes to change colour is related to the PH3 gas concentration. They are used for checking the fumigated area after aeration and to see if the area is safe for entry. These strips can also be given to the workers as badges when they are working in/near fumigated stacks.
Phosphine Dosimeter Tubes: These present a unique method to determine the PH3 concentration time product (Dose). It is an ideal method to determine the adequacy of fumigation. The total dose is measured by exposing the dosimeter tube during the entire period of fumigation.
METHYL BROMIDE FUMIGATION PRODUCTS:
MBR Tubes and Pumps: A short term detector tube for the measurement of MBr concentrations in the range of 0-1000 ppm. They are to be used with Uniphos ASP-21 Air Sampling Pump.
MBR LO Leak Detector: For the detection of MBr gas in the safety level of 5 ppm. Used to protect workers during the fumigation operation, as well as to detect leaks from the fumigated chamber.
MBR Hi Gas Monitor: For monitoring of MBr concentrations within the fumigated chamber at the fumigation concentration levels of 20 to 70 g/m3.
MULTI GAS MONITORS: Dual Gas Monitor for monitoring of PH3 and MBr concentrations within the fumigated chamber at the fumigation concentration levels.
FUMITRACK: Phosphine, Methyl bromide and Sulfuryl Fluoride are highly specific fumigants used to control a number of pests in a wide range of agricultural and horticultural crops and in wood products. Fumigation is carried out by enclosing the commodities within a leak proof enclosure and applying the fumigant at an adequate concentration for an extended period of time. Eg. Phosphine may be applied at a concentration ranging from 400 to 2000 ppm for a period of 5 to 21 days. As a process control measure it is necessary to monitor the fumigant concentrations throughout the period of fumigation. For this application, an online fumigation gas monitor is the right choice. This can periodically monitor the fumigation gas concentration from up to 4 different locations. The gas concentration readings can be stored in the inbuilt instrument memory, which can then be transferred to a PC equipped with customized Graphic User Interface (GUI) software. After each measurement cycle the data can also be remotely communicated by GSM short text messaging to mobile phone and also uploaded to a web server.
The Uniphos range of tubes are inter-changeable with Gas-tec & Kitigawa tubes so the same pump can be utilised.
