Leading fire protection specialist Wormald is supplying the Royal North Shore Hospital, currently
undergoing one of the largest healthcare redevelopments in NSW, with a comprehensive fire
Wormald will provide fire protection systems for the new Acute Hospital, Douglas Building and RNS
Community Health Centre premises, along with a multi-storey car park. The huge project will require
fire equipment and systems to be installed across a vast area, including approximately 100,000m² in the nine-storey Acute Hospital building, of which the level one footprint is in excess of 14,000m².

Wormald’s Sydney-based design and technical teams will be responsible for designing, supplying,
installing and commissioning a networked fire detection and colour graphics system with Emergency Warning Intercom Systems (EWIS), fire detection, fire sprinkler, fire hydrant and fire hose reel systems as well as fire extinguishers for each building. The data centre and specialist IT areas are protected with gaseous suppression and wet pre-action systems.
The development is scheduled to run until 2014. The end-to-end contract also includes servicing the
equipment and systems during the first 18 months, with the opportunity to continue the partnership in the long-term following the successful completion of stage one (Community Health Building) and
stage two (Acute Hospital Building).
The Royal North Shore Hospital contract is a PPP (Private Public Partnership) between the
consortium InfraShore and NSW Health.
