Sheila Norman, Children's Occupational Therapist
Sheila Norman Children's Occupational Therapist
I provide Occupational Therapy assessments with reports and recommendations for home and pre/school use as well as ongoing therapy as required. I see children with a wide range of difficulties including low muscle tone, mild to moderate developmental delay, difficulty with fine motor skills, self-help skills, pencil and writing skills, learning difficulties, ADHD, Autism spectrum disorders (and associated sensory and social issues), Down Syndrome and mild Cerebral Palsy. I am a registered provider with HCWA (Helping Children With Autism) and the Better Start program through the Queanbeyan Children's Special Needs Group (QCSNG) consortium. I am registered with the NDIS as well as with Medicare, so that I can provide services to children who are referred under Medicare plans. Most of my services are provided in my rooms, though I do occasional school or home visits. While I assess and make recommendations for minor pieces of equipment I am not currently providing home assessments and recommendations for home modifications. I see children aged from a few months to school year 12 level.
Qualifications and Experience: I am a qualified and registered occupational therapist. After working for a few years with adults, I worked for 5 years at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for children (Sydney Children's Hospital) before moving to Queanbeyan where I worked with children at the Queanbeyan Community Health Centre from 1990. After several years in that job I commenced my own private practice with children, which has been my full-time work since 2008.
Fees: Fees are available upon request. (For NDIS work I charge the standard NDIS fee for occupational therapy services.)
