Echo Barrier at North West Rail
Civil Engineering, Construction Company, Acoustic Insulation
The North West Rail Link (NWRL) project involves the construction of the new metro line north-west of Sydney, which will connect Chatswood station with Cudgegong Road.
The works to be carried out, included in the stretch between Bella Vista station and Cudgegong Road, consist of design and construction of the “Skytrain” bridge and other civil works that represent one of the main sections of the NWRL.
As part of the viaduct development at Kellyville (which forms part of the Skytrain bridge), a temporary car park has been constructed for commuters using public transport during the redevelopment of the existing car park.
Lighting towers are being used in the temporary car park to create a secure lit area for public transport patrons. The car park is adjacent to Kellyville’s suburban area, with residential buildings in close visible proximity.
To minimize the impact of the noise from the lighting towers, Echo Barrier was installed onto temporary fencing panels. This created multi sided noise walls facing the sensitive receivers.
Having the barriers close to the source of the noise maximises their acoustic attenuation.
Most importantly, the client stated they had not received any complaints regarding the noise from the temporary car park.
The barriers were also redeployed on site as some barriers were relocated to a generator between the t-way terminals and temporary car park. In addition to attenuating noise from the residential neighbourhood, Echo Barrier provided further protection for commuters as they alighted from public transport and made their way to their vehicles.
