Sophie the Giraffe, international ‘eco’ superstar of the toy world, turns 50 this year and Flying Penguin is inviting local and online shoppers to join in the celebration.
“Sophie is the world’s only 100 per cent natural rubber and non-toxic teething toy for babies and makes the perfect gift for newborns and teething babies,” said Vicki Harding, Flying Penguin’s Director.
“On Saturday 28 May, all day, we are offering our customers substantial savings on Sophie and if they already have a Sophie, all they need to do is bring her in or send us a photo to receive a 10% discount on anything they buy in the store or on . We’ll also have an activity for children to enter for a chance to win a great prize. And there’ll be some birthday treats for Newtown shoppers early on the day,” she added.
“Ever since we opened for business back in October 2009, Sophie has been flying off the shelves. Designed for tiny hands to easily grasp, she safely stimulates all of a baby’s five senses from around three months upwards. Her dark and contrasting spots provide visual stimulation while her squeaker stimulates hearing. Her soft touch feels like a mother’s skin - very soothing for babies - and her natural rubber smell helps little ones to distinguish her from their other toys,” explained Ms Harding.
Celebrations all over the world will kick off on May 25 with a huge birthday party in Paris – and will last for 12 months in her native France and in each of the other 47 countries around the world where she is now sold, including here in Australia.
Sophie’s fans include many celebrity mums – such as Nicole Richie, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lopez and Australian actresses Naomi Watts – and their babies. Join Sophie’s fan club and visit Flying Penguin in Newtown or on the 28 May.
