Wisdom teeth generally erupt into the mouth between 18-24 years of age. One in four adults will not have enough room in their jaws to fit these teeth. Wisdom teeth can make the other teeth become crowded as they try to force their way up. Impacted wisdom teeth can also get infected (Pericoronitis) making you very ill.
A special jaw scan (OPG) is often taken to assess your wisdom teeth position and whether they need to be removed or not. Dr Aden Tran has specialised skills in this area and undertakes the removal of wisdom teeth on a regular list in the comfort and safety of our practice. This is usually done under Sleep Dentistry (conscious intravenous sedation), whereby patients will be completely unaware of the procedure and are safely discharged home the same morning, without the inconvenience of a hospital stay. All cases are reviewed a fortnight later to ensure your proper recovery.
