This course covers a range of topics for the entry-level fitness instructor in order to provide an insight into the basic guidelines to be used for exercise programming. The topics covered in this course are cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease, diabetes, obesity (please note obesity is not a disease), and arthritis. At the end of the course, students will be able to successfully utilize the results from multiple testing sources in order to develop successful exercise programming. Mode of delivery: On-line and distance education The aims of this exciting course are to: Describe cardiovascular disease and coronary heart disease in relation to what it is and what the methods of prevention are, such as reduction of fat and selection of fatty acids. Explain the hypertension and associated blood pressure category risks Provide an explanation of stroke and the two main types of stroke Explain the main types of pulmonary diseases (Asthma, Bronchitis, Emphysema, Pneumonia) Explain the relation of blood glucose with regards to diabetes mellitus Explain the ingestion process of carbohydrates and the response of insulin and glucagon Explain the differences between the two types of diabetes Explain obesity and define how it is interpreted via BMI and waist to hip ratio List and explain the two main types of arthritis Develop exercise programming for individuals with arthritis
