Black carbon in the air shed is generated from combustion processes including burning of fuels such as diesel or coal and biomass burning. Black carbon in the atmosphere it is recognised to play a role in anthropogenic climate change therefore monitoring and source apportionment of ambient black carbon receiving increasing interest. Benchmark Monitoring are an agent for the supply of the Magee Scientific Aethalometer® range within in Australia. An Aethalometer® uses continuous optical analysis to determine the black carbon (Soot) concentration in the aerosol deposited on a filter from the sample air stream. Optical density filters are available for ongoing verification of aethalometer performance.
