Playback Theatre is a unique and dynamic tool for communication. It can be described as entertainment and discovery rolled into one. It is improvised theatre created through a unique collaboration between performers and audience. The spontaneity of the improvising ensemble will both energise and inspire the audience. Playback accesses the stored knowledge and experience within the group to its advantage, knowledge and experience that might otherwise be passed over in the rush to move forward. Playback acknowledges the past and the present, and in doing so creates a springboard to the future. It is adaptable to all types of groups for a wide range of topic or program. As long as people in the audience have experiences to relate, Playback will have a place to operate. Audience members tell stories from experiences around a given theme or topic, the ensemble of performers listen then using improvisation create artistic one act plays through music, movement and theatre. And, because it is a reflection of the groups circumstances it is always relevant, insightful and engaging in addition because it is improvisation it is always humorous .
