Targeted Resumes

In the last two weeks we explained the work history and competency resumes and when it is suitable to use them. This week’s post is about targeted resumes. A targeted resume is suitable when you know exactly what position you are applying for. In this case you should write a resume specifically for the position. The resume should match your skills, knowledge and experience with the position’s requirements. Look on a targeted resume as a sales pitch as to how you can do the future job. In comparison, the work history and competency resumes focus on what you have done. Although you may need to write a targeted resume for each position you apply for, it is a more productive approach than using a generic work history or competency resume.
