Job Selection Criteria

If you don’t understand the function of job selection criteria, you will be at a disadvantage. Job selection criteria are used by government organisations and an increasing number of private sector companies. They are the competencies that the recruiting organisation is looking for in the ideal applicant for the advertised job and they include skills, knowledge, experience, qualifications and personal attributes. If job selection criteria are used as part of the recruitment process, do not ignore them - you must demonstrate to the selection panel that you meet each of those criteria. This can be done using a tailored resume or a covering letter in which you address each of the selection criteria and use personal examples to demonstrate how you meet each of them.
