Last week we explained the work history resume and when it is suitable to use it. This week’s post is about competency resumes. A competency resume is suitable if you have knowledge or skills to offer but little work experience in the field in which you wish to be employed. This might be because you are a graduate, or you have an erratic work history, or you wish to change career. In these cases, you want to emphasise what you know and what you can do rather than your work history. In a competency resume, you should place your knowledge, skills and accomplishments after your personal details and put your work history towards the bottom of your resume. Next week we will explain when a targeted resume might be more suitable.
