Rosacea is an inflammatory condition only and unlike acne (acne vulgaris) Rosacea does not cause scarring. Rosacea is a chronic disorder, rather than a short-term condition, and is often characterised by relapses and remissions. Rosacea is an "acnieform eruption". This means it has many features that make it acne-like in appearance, but it is N0T acne. Thus the old term "acne rosacea" should no longer be used. There are pustules, but no comedones and the condition affects only the face. There is a lot that can be done to assist a client suffering from Rosacea. While at present there is no cure for Rosacea, its symptoms can usually be controlled with medical therapy and lifestyle modifications. Rosacea is not considered contagious or infectious. There is no evidence that Rosacea can be spread by contact with the skin, sharing towels, or through inhalation. To remove visible blood vessels or reduce extensive redness, Intense Pulsed Light Rosacea treatments use a system that emits high intensity wavelengths of light that target tiny blood vessels just under the skin. Heat from the IPL light energy builds in the vessels, causing them to disintegrate. IPL treatments may also be used to help retard the buildup of excess tissue. As opposed to laser treatments, the IPL system minimises any possible bruising and the multiple wavelengths treat a broader spectrum of tissue. IPL can effectively clear mild to moderate inflammatory Rosacea and dramatically improve the overall look of your skin. The safety and effectiveness of IPL or laser therapy may depend on the skill of the Clinician. Typically, just four (4) to six (6) treatments over a two (2) to three (3) month period will greatly improve the appearance of skin as well as even out skin tone and improve the reduction of redness. The addition of LED Phototherapy is also highly recommended to aid in skin rejuvenation and the reduction of inflamatory outbreaks.
