Radiation therapy is a highly effective treatment modality for patients with cancer. Used alone, or in combination with other approaches such as surgery or chemotherapy, it cannot only cure many patients, but also control tumour to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life. Over half of all patients with cancer will require radiation therapy at some point as part of their overall cancer treatment program.

In the past 50 years our knowledge of how best to use radiation has vastly improved.In the past 10 years we have made huge improvements in our ability to deliver high-dose radiation with tremendous accuracy. The use of the latest radiation oncology machines, such as high energy linear accelerators, means we can now access the cancerous area seen on scans with greater accuracy and speed of treatment delivery.


External Beam Radiation Therapy

Usually the treatment takes only seconds or a few minutes, but each visit may take up to 15-30 minutes daily, due to the extensive quality assurance programs we have in place to ensure that the radiation is positioned and delivered accurately each day.


Gamma Knife Radiosurgery

The information gained from the imaging in step 3 is used by your doctors with the assistance of highly trained Medical Physicists and Radiation Therapists to develop an accurate and customised treatment plan. The procedure is completely painless and you will remain awake throughout the procedure with the treatment team monitoring you the whole time.


Medical Oncology

Healthy cells can repair the damage caused by chemotherapy, but cancer cells cannot and so they eventually die. It may also be used with other types of treatment such as,,, biological therapies, or a combination of these. The session of chemotherapy and the rest period is known as a cycle of treatment. Chemotherapy is the use of anti-cancer drugs to destroy cancer cells.
