Broke Fordwich will host its 9 annual Spirit of the Vine festival on the weekend of 22 and 23 October 2011. Come to Broke, pick up a $5 glass and a festival programme and take the time to discover this quiet corner of the valley – or book ahead and make it a weekend to remember.

Spirit of the Vine celebrates the quality of wines made in this spectacularly beautiful region. The festival offers a variety of wine and lifestyle experiences, with a fantastic program offering visitors the opportunity to taste, enjoy and learn directly from many of the region’s award winning Vignerons, Winemakers, Chefs and Farm Gate producers, the subtle arts of making great wine, and the perfect complementary dish. For those who have never visited Broke Fordwich, Spirit of the Vine is the perfect introduction to the region. For those who have already discovered us, it’s a great excuse to drop in on old friends.

The festival also recognises the passion of Broke Fordwich wine community – boutique producers with an intimate knowledge of the land and the vineyards they nurture. With most of the local wineries being owner operated, visitors are more than likely to be greeted by actual winemakers and grape growers, all with stories to tell: some of them true!

According to the Mike Wilson, Secretary of the Broke Fordwich Wine Tourism Association, "We honestly feel Broke can offer something that the big boys in Pokolbin can't offer any longer - the time to talk and time to listen to you"

So take the time to visit the “Tranquil Side of the Hunter Valley”. It’s an easy day trip, at only 15 minutes from the busy hub of Pokolbin, or 2 hours from Sydney via the historic convict road through Peats Ridge and Wollombi. If you wish to make your stay longer, a range of accommodation options are available locally, from self-contained cottages, to camping grounds, to country homesteads, farmstays or boutique resorts. Visit the Broke Fordwich website on for more information on the activities on offer during the festival weekend, along with accommodation or wine tour services available.
