What happens during a check up & clean appointment?1 DENTAL HYGIENIST WILL CLEAN AND POLISH YOUR TEETH AND GUMS
Our hygienists are an important part of the Smile Dental Clinics team. As trained dental professionals, they support our dentists by providing preventative dental healthcare to our patients. Our hygienists love nothing more than making your teeth and gums as fresh and clean as possible!
They will start by gently removing tartar deposits from your teeth, reaching into all those tricky places that normal brushing and flossing can’t. Your teeth are then flossed and polished.2 NEXT UP IS A FLUORIDE TREATMENT
A fluoride treatment will be applied directly to the surfaces of each tooth to help protect them from the acids and bacteria in your mouth that cause decay. You shouldn’t eat or drink for at least 30 minutes afterwards to allow your teeth time to absorb the fluoride and repair any tiny areas of decay.
The hygienist may also discuss your normal brushing and flossing routine and provide suggestions on how you can improve the health of your teeth and gums. This is time well spent and you should take advantage of their experience and knowledge by asking them lots of questions. 3 NOW IT’S TIME FOR THE DENTIST’S EXAMINATION
Now that your teeth are clean, it makes it easier for your dentist to conduct a comprehensive examination to establish the current state of your teeth and gums.
Your dentist will get an update from your hygienist and then proceed with their exam which typically consists of:
- A visual check.
- Charting of all your teeth.
- A gentle exploration of your teeth and gums for signs of decay or disease.
- Photos from inside your mouth using a small hand held camera.
- X-rays to determine what’s going on below the surface.
A check up and clean is only $159, including $160 of free x-rays!
