You are your nervous system.  All sensation is processed and "experienced" in the massive neural network that is your brain.  It is where our consciousness resides, the centre of our experience. We really are our nervous system.

How is our nervous system related to health?:

It is connected to everything and regulates the function of all the organs of the body.

I would like to simply and succinctly outlines the functions of your body and how disturbance to the nervous system can cause drastic damage to health and vitality.

S.O.T Chiropractic works on the nervous system via the organs, spine and skull.  It is a gentle, effective technique which will bring your body back to health and balance and help it remain there.

Outlining Sacro Occipital Technique (S.O.T):

There are two words that I'm going to repeat a lot, and those are: "Nervous System".

Think of your body.  What is it?  Skin, muscles, tendons, bone, all driven by the nervous system.  Our bones stay strong so that the muscles can pull on them and create movement at joints. Our organs process food and nutrients and deal with the waste products of cellular respiration.

All of it is coordinated and controlled by the nervous system. But what is the nervou system? It is where our consciousness resides, the centre of our experience. All sensation is processed and "experienced" in the nervous system.

Our five senses have sensory organs to transmit signals back to the brain where they can be interpreted: Eyes, ears, tongue, olfactory bulb in the nose, pressure receptors in the skin and musculoskeletal system, all passing information along a biological pipeline into the spine and up to the brain.

With this being the case then, who are we? Are we not really our nervous systems? Bundles of interwoven neurons pulsating away in unison. Our thoughts flying around like mini lightning illuminating whole sections of cortex at once some fleeting, some sustained. Our nervous system is plugged into everything. If we took awayall the other flesh and just left the nervous system, we would still be recognizable as ourselves.

So here we are, a Biological Machine and the only part of us that's actually consciously experiencing anything is the nervous system.

So how is the nervous system related to health?  It regulates the function of all the organs of the body.  How does the heart know to beat faster or the kidney to retain more water?  The nervous system commands it to happen. The process is augmented by the hormonal system, with the hormonal organs all controlled by the nervous system.

Failure of accurate communication by the nervous system is the only method of malfunction. Read that sentence again because it's important.

So how does alteration occur to nervous system messages? The thing to remember here is that it is a biological pipeline. This means that it is really a series of tubes.Tubes can be blocked by pressure. Especially when they are squishy like nerve cells. This can have many effects apart from blocking flow. It can create local changes which affect the amount of stimulation needed to create a response. Nerve cells can become hyper-sensitive making an increase in function. Or they can become hypo-sensitive resulting in decreased function in the target tissue or incorrect feedback information to the brain

This can affect feedback with the brain having to constantly monitor functions which should be taking care of themselves. It's like sitting on a chair with 2 legs missing. You can do it, but it's harder to work and concentrate and you get tired more quickly and start hurting yourself just to keep doing what you used to be able to do easily. In computer terms, it's using all your RAM and making processing of other functions much slower.

Ultimately this will make you sick. Organs begin functioning disharmoniously and inefficiently. Fatigued muscles start breaking down, needing to be constantly goaded into action by a nervous system which is itself under strain already. The adrenal glands are overworked and make demands of the liver for difficult to produce molecules. The liver in turn strips minerals from the bloodstream and the kidneys can't maintain the fluid levels necessary for a healthy body.

Now we need toknow how to fix it. Simple, take the kink out of the hose. Release pressure from the nervous system. Stop things from pulling on it and squashing it. And where are we going to have maximum effect in doing this? The brain and spina lcord.

S.O.T adjustments aim to relieve pressure from the nervous system by preserving the alignment of the pelvis with the cranium. Specific adjustments of the skull allow pressures on the brain to be altered directly.

Paramount in the mind of the practitioner is that they are effecting nerve function with their adjustments. Thus they are gentle and move with the body. Most often they are done with breathing, as restoring proper respiratory function is part of returning health to the being. Organs are also adjusted as their function isalso impaired by pressure and tension.
