The Crane Industry Council of Australia has instigated a standardised inspection regime to meet the Australian Standards 2550.1-2011 Cranes, hoists and winches - Safe use - General requirements, independant third party inspection requirements that apply to all crane types. The inspection regime is called Cranesafe and is where endorsed assessors conduct the inspections utilising a standardised format and inspection report. With a copy of the report also being maintained on the Cranesafe database to prevent possible roughting of the system.
The inspections include a full inspection of the equipment, the log books, the maintenance and the use of the equipment by the operator and the owner to ensure the equipment remains safe on the worksite and for all those concerned. Once the inspection has been completed a copy of the report is sent to Cranesafe where if everything has been conducted correctly, a certificate is issued and placed on the equipment for the recognition that the equipment has been inspected. The certificate comes in the form of a green label placed on the vehicle much the same as a registration label on your car; hence the "Green sticker" tag.
This inspection is now mandatory for eligible equipment operating on a CMFEU worksite and for those companies that wish to comply to Australian Standards.
