Family Dispute Resolution

Family dispute resolution/Mediation endeavours to help separating couples divide properties and assets and/or reach agreements that are in the best interest of their children. It also encourages separated couples to parent cooperatively. Mediation is a process that focuses on the future interests of those involved and to promote positive ongoing relationships.

All individuals wanting to apply to a court for a parenting order must first attendfamily dispute resolution, and obtain a certificate from an accredited family dispute resolution practitioner confirming that an attempt at family dispute resolution was made. This requirement applies to all applications, including those seeking changes to an existing parenting order. The family dispute resolution practitioner is required to complete a form 11.
