Opening up walls or completely removing walls can be the simplest way of creating space or simply that roomier feel without increasing the buildings footprint. Of course demolishing walls cannot be undertaken without an engineers design to include a lintel or beam to span where the wall used to be. This beam will carry the roof or upper levels instead of the bearing wall. With todays building practices, creating an open space home can be acheived by combining several rooms after removing walls. One can also acheive the best of both worlds by installing bi-fold or stacker doors to close the area off when needed.
