About Isabelle's Academy Of Tap
Tap Dance classes from absolute beginners to professional level
The main focus of Isbelle's Academy of Tap is to teach adults the art of tap dance, but the school also offers classes for the professional dancer, actors wanting to gain movement skills and tap skills, plus children’s classes.
The school operates over weeknights and Saturdays offering a range of tap classes from absolute beginner to professional level.
Isabelle also teaches at the CAE, and both Megan Ellis and Isabelle Ryan teach tap at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School.
Isabelle’s Academy of Tap currently operates from studios at the Victorian College of the Arts, with some classes at the Dance Factory.
The school teaches a wide variety of tap styles, from traditional, jazz, musical theatre, pop to funk and ‘tap dogs’ style, this is unlike many other schools that really focus on just one tap style. Each class focuses on technique development plus routines to develop performance skills and to ensure students have the ability to combine the different rhythms. The more advanced classes also have improvisation sessions, to develop the student’s own style and to develop greater musicality and improve their sense of rhythm.
Isabelle has a troupe of ladies, all aged 50 plus, the majority started as adult beginners, they have been together for about 15 years and perform at different venues around Melbourne. The Golden Tappers are available for bookings.
The school has an annual performance every year in early December.
