No longer are we in offices where the only light available is the light coming from a bunch of florescent bulbs in the ceiling. Instead today’s office space and office desk have a number of lighting options. The overhead lighting in most office spaces is enough to work by, but it may also be causing some unexpected problems and discomforts. While the light shines down to let you see what you are doing, often it also casts a glare off the monitor or other portions of your office desk. That glare is causing your eyes to try and constantly change their focus from the brighter to the darker areas of the workstation. While you may not notice the effect, it is estimated that about 90 percent of the workforce is suffering from what is being called Computer Vision Syndrome which is a strain on the eyes that can result in headaches and other head and eye ailments. This is where flexible lighting can come in and make the difference. This is an adjustable lighting option you can put at your workstation to cast light where you need it, and control the overall lighting exposure to your office desk. Since the light is flexible with usually at least two joints of adjustability, as you shift positions at your office desk and the lighting changes and causes a new glare, fixing that situation is as simple as maneuvering the light to get rid of the glare and once again even out the light exposure. When selecting a flexible light there is a very important consideration to make. Read up on the lights you are considering. Do the light and the fixture get hot to the touch? If so, that is going to make it hard to adjust the light, as you need to change the exposure and avoid the glare. The heat coming from the light can also be a fire hazard with prolonged exposure to your desk surface. Some of the newer lighting options have been created to stay cool to the touch while offering enough lighting. If you are considering redoing your entire office lighting system, you may want to avoid the need for individual tabletop lights and instead consider task lighting. Newer task lighting kits have individual controls that each employee can use to control the lighting coming into their office space, that will help them control the glare coming from the light overhead. The bonus with these lights is that they often use fluorescent bulbs, which do not have to be replaced as frequently, and use less electricity, cutting down your power bill. When creating the most productive office environment desks and chairs are not enough, you also need to make sure your employees have proper lighting to get the job done, successfully and with less strain and pain.
