The access hatches are designed to be maintenance free, and are constructed from aluminium except for Fire rated hatches which are constructed from steel sheet metal. A proven counter balance system enables easy lift with minimum exertion to open the hatch. Scissor stairs, folding ladders, attic ladders and climb and fall protective devices are also available as part of the hatch system. According to Gorter Director Bert Muller, the hatch products offer a range of advantages. The roof hatches can incorporate a clear cover to maximize the use of natural light, operate electronically, and can be fire rated. The floor doors include water drainage, tiles, carpet or timber infill, and can also be operated electronically.
