Families turn to hired help Time-poor families are turning to hired help to complete a range of household tasks.

Time-strapped modern families are increasingly turning to hired help for everything from cleaning the house to walking the dog, cooking, cleaning and decluttering. Busy parents are building up teams of workers to look after the chores so they can concentrate on work and children.

One in five Australians wants to work less, figures show, with mums most most likely to bear the brunt of work-life stress. Jim who founded Jim's Mowing, which has branched into a plethora of services, including car and house cleaning and dog washing, said they couldn't meet demand. "We find the demand quite extraordinary, it's dramatically different to even back in the '90s," he said. "Some jobs can't even get done; we are losing 20 per cent of the leads." Spending on household services has grown by 3.8 per cent over the past year, reports this week revealed, despite a slower rise in retail spending. South Melbourne's Diggidy Doggy Daycare has a waiting list of 20 dogs a day. "The demand is massive," said co-owner Janette  "I think number one is, a lot of our client base don't have children, but two, people are very time-poor." South Yarra mother and business owner Vicki as built up what she calls her "A team" - a cleaner, window cleaner, dog walker, dog day care and garden designers-maintenance. With her husband, Peter overseas for business two-thirds of the year, and running her own business, she said there were not enough hours in the day to do everything. "We are a pretty full-on family, there would be no time for family, friends or myself if I didn't have a team of people to help”.

Cooking and shopping takes up a lot of time so it is worth considering a personal chef to do it all for you.  If you work out what you spend a week on eating out and take away it is better to spend the money on good home cooked meals that are healthy for everyone.
