A well-designed ventilation system was extremely important for the Cross City Tunnel in Sydney. The systemwas designed with a tall ventilation stack, creating the need for a secure fall arrest system for cleaning and maintaining the structure. Bomac Engineering was chosen to create this fall arrest system, which presented several unique challenges. Obviously, the system had to meet all the required fall arrest safety standards. Other criteria were based on cost and durability of the system. This project offered other challenges specific to the situation. For example, it was required that the fall arrest system couldn't incorporate any sort of netting as it would restrict the air flow of the stack. The stack was designed to be visually appealing, and the ideal safety system would be equally attractive and blend in with the overall look of the structure. Taking all of these requirements together, Altrac was the perfect product for the task; the simplistic design of the Altrac fall arrest system is what makes it unique and safer than many other systems designed for the same use. The Bomac Altrac Fall arrest system exceeds the AS1891 and AS4488 criteria for fall arrest systems and complies with many foreign lifeline standards.
