Barwon Grange is a place in an elegant early Victorian suburban villa built for upper middle class merchant, property financier and banker, Jonathan Porter O'Brien. This property captures and conserves a particular interval of time - a tableau from August 1855 to July 1856 - reflecting the family's affluent life style in Geelong prior to their return to Liverpool England.
Barwon Grange’s Heritage significance is recognised by Heritage Victoria, by in the City of Greater Geelong Planning Scheme, the register of the National Estate and the register of the National Trust. Both the homestead and the garden are important.
Barwon Grange, along with other National Trust of Australia (Vic) properties is run with thanks to our hard working volunteers. To avoid disappointment please contact our friendly team to check if they will be open on the day you are planning on visiting us.
